* Lets accelerate to 60 bro… woohoo 😜
* Don’t you see speed limits? 🛑👮️
☝️ Have you heard of such things?
Today we are talking about Speed.
Simply, speed is the “distance per unit time”
Speed = (Distance) / (Time)
* Unit Time —> Can be in one second/ per hour.
There are several ways you can tell speed. Some of these,
• Kilometers per hour (km / h or kmph)
• Meters per second (m / s or mps)
The speed limits we see on the road are in kmph …
Like 40 kmph, 50 kmph, 70 kmph.
Now look at the following examples.
1. A bus took 21 minutes to reach the first 14 km and the remaining 22 km took 14 minutes.
i. The entire journey was in hours?
ii. Bus speed?
Answer..
First let’s see how to turn the minutes into hours.
60 minutes = 1 hour
60 min = 1 h
1min = 1/60 h
20 min = 20/60 h
46 min = 46/60 h
i. Total time spent
= 21/60 + 14/60 h
= (21 + 14) / 60 h
= 35/60 h
= 0.583 h
ii. The speed of the bus
= (Total Distance) / (Time)
= (14 km + 22 km) / (0.583 h)
= 36 km / 0.583 h
= 61.75 kmph
I think now it it clear for you what is the Speed!
